For Historical Societies & Sites

Share Local History Where It Happens

Create self-guided audio tours visitors can start from a QR code at your site — or discover in the USTourGuide app while exploring your community.

Inexpensive

Professional audio tours without commissioning a custom app.

Easy to Create

Build from your phone walking the site, or from a web portal.

Get Discovered

Reach visitors on-site and travelers browsing your area.

Two Ways to Reach Visitors

Share It On Site

Every tour's QR code is generated automatically when you publish — ready to print on a sign, a plaque, or a brochure. Visitors scan it and land on your tour page, which directs them to get the free USTourGuide app — the tour plays in the app.

Reach Travelers Through USTourGuide

Request a listing for your published tour. Approved tours appear in the app's tour directory and on the map, where travelers browsing your area find them while exploring.

  • Reach travelers exploring your region
  • Promote lesser-known sites
  • Connect multiple locations in one countywide tour
  • Give visitors a local source for local history

Easy Tour Creation

Four steps from an idea to a tour visitors can take today.

1

Choose Your Stops

Walk or drive the route and place each stop where the story happened.

2

Tell the Story

Write from your computer or dictate from your phone. Volunteers need no technical expertise.

3

Preview

Hear the narration, then adjust stops, photos, and order until it's right.

4

Publish and Share

Publish your tour and get a linke and QR code to share with guest — and, if you like, request a national listing in the USTourGuide app.

From One Building to an Entire County

Downtown Walking Tour

Share the history of your town, one block at a time.

Cemetery Tour

Honor lives and preserve stories for future generations.

Museum & Exhibits Grounds

Welcome visitors in your own words — narration starts as they arrive and keeps playing inside.

Battlefield or Historic Landscape

Guide visitors through the events that shaped the ground they're standing on.

Countywide Heritage Tour

Connect your county's historic sites into one driving tour.

IMPORTANT: Tour stops are triggered by GPS location: a stop begins playing as visitors approach and continues indoors, but new stops don't trigger inside a building — plan indoor spaces as a single stop at the entrance.

No Separate App for Your Visitors

One shared free app for every tour — visitors install USTourGuide once, not a custom app per site.

Commissioning a custom app

  • Hire developers
  • Build iOS and Android separately
  • Maintain and update it for years
  • Convince visitors to install yet another app

Publishing with USTourGuide

  • Create the tour
  • Publish
  • Share the link or QR code
  • Update anytime
  • Visitors use one free shared app

History Told by the People Who Preserve It

Your organization controls its content. Update your tours as research advances, exhibits change, and interpretations evolve — corrections and new findings reach visitors the moment you publish them.

Your organization retains ownership of its research, photographs, and written materials.
